Winter Blues

Hello everyone, I hope you are all well. I really am not feeling the "Winter Blues" as my title may suggest though. I thank God for and enjoy every season and the beauty that comes with each one.
I was walking about the house the other day thinking I should do a post on blue things, so I gathered up everything I could find (which isn't much) and here are a few "Winter Blue" Vignettes for you.

We'll start upstairs where I put together this blue vignette on my antique writing desk.

Upon a closer look you will see a few books that I pulled from my secretary bookcase, the two stacked ones are dated 1941 and 1892, a pair of antique eye glasses, an antique blue velvet and silk frame, a miniature dollhouse hatbox and hat on form and a round antique stove tile.

Over the Summer at one of the sales I worked I bought the below vintage doll tea set, which I had always wanted one of. The doll, with her beautiful blue eyes and blue trim on the dress, is an 1860's porcelain one, and then the black ebonized frame, from the 1870's, has the blue velvet and silk trim that I thought would look cute for this vignette. The little girl in the photo is my great grandma, photo taken in 1903.

Although I have only shown two, I do have 8 cups and saucers for this tea set. If you would like to see the post with more about this doll and more antique dolls click here.

Below are a few blue dresser items on a a mirrored gold tray lined with vintage doilies that my grandmother made years ago. All items in the tray are antiques, being 100 years and older. From left to right is a powder tin, a bristol glass perfume bottle, a trade card of a lady wearing a blue dress, a small ring box made in Germany, and a hair receiver with a watch fob made of human hair.

Just a little bit of a closer look, but not much more.

Below are more antiques and consist of a bowl in a silver plate holder, a 6" hand painted plate, a doll sized plate on small easel and a milk glass toothpick holder, shell souvenir piece from the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair.

The blue bowl is Jewel and Fan pattern Opalescent glass made in the early 1900's. The holder is not original to the piece, I just placed them together.

And you know I couldn't do a post without some antique tradecards,  postcards and a calling card, so here are just a few of them. I focused mostly on blue forget  me nots for this post though.

These all date from 1894 or so to 1907. If you look closely you will see, to the right of the cherub face, an antique small beaded boot that used to be covered in a blue material but is mostly non existent now.

Moving back downstairs to the  main level I found more blue! Here is an antique lamp globe and a paper fan tucked in to the antique walnut magazine wall rack. The photo in the frame behind the globe is  the same great grandmother that you saw above with the doll but as an older child, taken around 1906 or so.

Lastly, is my antique needlepoint bellpull that is edged in blue. And now,  if you'll excuse me now, I am being called to get back to work in the kitchen! Ha, ha! :-)

Have a great day and thank you so much for your visit!

First Antique Find of 2015

Hello everyone! I went to an antique auction this past weekend and bought my first antique for the New Year! It isn't a piece of furniture although I did bid on an antique walnut half commode but did not get it. I had a limit and stuck to it. And I saw a marble top dresser that I almost bid on and did not and now I keep wishing I would have but then keep telling myself to forget about it! We just got through Christmas, my son will be going off to college soon AND we are going to Florida this Summer! So there goes any antique furniture (at least for now!)

Okay,  so here is what I did buy!

A pair of beautiful porcelain bisque ladies!

They date to around 1878, are French, Vion and Baury, and stand 20" tall, much taller then the last pair that I bought for the mantle. This pair I got for a song because the fingers on one hand were broken off during the move from the owner's home to the auction house, but because the pieces were kept I glued them right back on and you can hardly tell.
So anyway, are you ready for some close ups?

They are hand painted with such beautiful detail work. This gal looks like some sort of a queen or princess with her crown...

she reminds me of  the lady in this picture that I have hanging here in the dining room...

she is Queen Louise of Prussia, the most famous Beauty of the 18th Century.

And here is the other gal with a blue head band on...

Aren't they just gorgeous?

Here is a back view of their hair...

some side views...

and some bird views...

And now, where to put them right? Since my mantle is full...

they will just have to go up here for now...

and join some more birds!

Well that is it for now, thank you so much for stopping by and may you have a blessed 2015!

Many thanks go out to Bella over at Let's Talk Vintage for featuring my antique postcards from my Christmas in the Parlor post, to Kathy over at Home and Garden Thursday  and to Nancy at Every Room in the House party  for featuring my Christmas in the Parlor post. Thanks ladies!
