"Thanksgiving Day" and another Floral Arrangement!

Hello everyone, will you hang in there with me one more time so I can show you one more floral arrangement made by my daughter? No more Fall arrangements after this one, I promise!

Some of my latest finds include the above antique brass candlesticks for $4 each and the set of 6 embroidered crocheted edged napkins that I thought would compliment the Fall arrangement.

And what is Thanksgiving without the familiar "Thanksgiving Day" song/poem written by Mrs. Lydia Maria Child in 1844. Song better known as "Over the River".
The below lithograph (the original was painted in 1867) is the popular Currier and Ives print called "Home to Thanksgiving". Perfect for the song.

And how about this Victorian lady? She is known for her decades of campaigning to make Thanksgiving a National Holiday. And finally in 1863 Abraham Lincoln set the last Thursday in November as a National Holiday. Although Thanksgiving did not become a legal holiday until 1941.

And beside that, guess what else Sarah Josepha Hale is well known for? I've given you a hint in the below photo. Can you guess?

She was an editor for the popular Victorian magazine Godey's Lady's Book AND she wrote "Mary had a Little Lamb"! Isn't that sweet?

The little lamb is also one of my latest little finds. (I'm always looking for sheep for Easter, Lamb of God). The 1853 Godey's Lady's book I have had for a while. It contains a year of the magazines in one book. Colored fashion plates and all!

You have all inspired me so much with all of your beautiful Turkey plates, and I don't own a single one! The only turkeys I have around here are on my postcards. Latest postcard find...

But I do have some Bavaria bird plates. How about a pheasant for Thanksgiving? Or a mallard? JK

Thank you so much for visiting and have a blessed Thanksgiving Day!

Time Off and Projects Completed

Hello everyone, I have two weeks off from working the estate sales because we didn't have any sales scheduled. This first week went by very quickly but it was a very productive week, I got a lot done and I had fun while doing it!
My first project was changing the shelf edging (or whatever you call it) in my antique stepback cupboard. So in order to do that I needed to take ALL of its contents out! That was a project in itself let me tell you.

I had things all over the table and on the floor, but as you can see I got the trim glued on the shelves...

below is what I had on the shelves before. (just ignore the Halloween) Mismatched crochet edged dresser scarves. So I wanted the shelves to match.

so now they do. I had bought a couple of yards of  matching crochet edging at one of our sales for this very purpose.

After attaching the edging, the plates, the teacups, the silverplate, it all got moved back in to the cupboard.
Some things got switched around to other shelves, some things got moved to different cabinets and a few things even went in the garage sale box!

In preparation for the Victorian marble top sideboard, that I have not found yet, I moved my Miniature Olde Curiosity Shop room boxes out of the dining room and to the closet.

And put these things there for now. Underneath the cloth is just a school desk that will go as soon as I find a sideboard to put in its place.

Another project was changing things around a bit in the foyer so I would have a place for my new (old) pot. (Ignore the Halloween decor there too, I just wanted you to see the before photo.)

This is the pot, I bought it for $6, as is. It dates to the late 1800's and is hand crafted art pottery, made by the Weller Pottery Company. It is called Louwelsa pottery and is similar to Rookwood Pottery.

Since this pot is smaller then the other one, I used this little marble top stand for some added height.
Which one do you like better there, the bigger pot down lower or the smaller pot up higher? Or the smaller pot on the lower black stand (not pictured)?

A while back I bought this chenille woolwork flower wreath shadow box and finally got it hung up in the master bedroom...

but you know how it is. You buy something and have to move things around to make room for the new thing. So this framed fan got moved over here. The Victorian Winter wrap/cape/cloak is also a recent purchase for $5!

Another project was getting these lace curtains hung in the kids' Zoo inspired bathroom. Everything looks better with lace, right? And the kids actually liked it! Yay!

I also made time to visit some of my elderly friends, drove to the small town where my son attends college to take him out for lunch, and that is when I spied this gorgeous house that totally took my breath away! I love the mansard style roof.

We also celebrated my son's 19th birthday! Wow, where does the time go?!

And, of course, I made time to play with sweet little Lacey!

She loves this stuffed pumpkin and I think she looks so cute with it, being that she is black and all. It reminds me of Halloween.

Well that is it for now but thank you so much for visiting and Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends!

A Bright Rainy Day

When I am home on a rainy day there is nothing I like more then the cozy and warm feel that you get from the light of a lamp or candle. So as I'm going about the house getting things done I have all the lamps on and a few candles lit. In the living room is where I have the most lamps. Below in the reflection of the pier mirror are three lamps. The one in the front is a gold glass beaded candle lamp and in the back ground are a floor lamp and an electrified kerosene lamp.

Here is a close up of the floor lamp

a cozy spot for reading,

and a close up of the kerosene lamp

with yet another electrified kerosene lamp over on the Library table

and again, a reflection of the floor lamp, in a different mirror.

On the mantle are a pair of Meissen style porcelain candlesticks with lusters to reflect the candle light to add even more light to the room.

In the foyer is the reddish glow of the cranberry glass electrified ceiling lamp.

And upstairs in the master bedroom are a few more lamps

Below is a close up of the lamp on the other side of the bed. The base is reproduction but the globe is antique. It came on the tall kerosene lamp that I have on the Library table but I moved it to this lamp.

And last of all, is this little night light in my son's room. It makes me laugh because he is such a masculine young man to have such a sweet little floral night light in his room. He went off to college so I put it away and when he came back for the weekend he got it back out and there it sits on his washstand. Isn't that cute?

Thank you for your visit and I hope I've added a little warmth to your day today. Have a blessed week.

Thank you to Jillian over at LET'S TALK VINTAGE for featuring my antique Thanksgiving postcards from last week.

Autumn Centerpiece and Latest Finds

Hello everyone! My daughter has made another floral arrangement in her class at school (High School) and so I decided to have fun with it and use it as the focal point for some Autumn Vignettes/ table centerpieces, while sharing some of my latest finds with you.

Below are my candle shades and sticks that I got at a sale, doilies too and the squash are compliments of Richard at My Old Historic House. :)

For this photo I changed it up just a tad with this embroidered table runner, another recent find. Perfect for this time of year.

Dim the lights a bit and add a basket for a more country look

brighten it up a bit and add a turkey in the background.

I bought the basket at a sale and the owner said it was nearly 100 years old, I thought it was cool

but nobody else did so I ended up getting it for $2.50 at the end of the sale!

The below Victorian Scrapbook is another of my latest finds

filled with lots of trade cards and scrap art...

the pretty gal on the cover reminds me of a Pilgrim so I paired her up with this Pilgrim postcard,

and now let's pair her up with this turkey for another table vignette.

And speaking of turkeys, here are a few more postcards for you to look at. The one in the front is one I got just last week at a sale.

Now I want to share with you some sweet little November blooms

I totally adore Foxgloves and besides blooming this past early Summer I had never had much luck with them so to have this plant bloom again, especially in November, is a very special treat for me.

Have a blessed week and thank you so much for stopping by!

Ghost Tours at Richard's Historic Home

Hello everyone, hope all had a wonderfully "haunted" Halloween!
I found myself here...

in Clarksville, Missouri

Richard hosted a Haunted Tour at his historic home.
He had things decorated like a funeral from the 1860's.
Mirrors and chandeliers and wreaths were covered in black fabric,
and each room had a spooky candle light glow.

(the above and below photo taken by Richard Cottrell)

Richard's sweet niece Linda helped with the tours.

And guess who got to help with the tours?!
Yes, me!
We had tours every half hour from 6 to 10:00.
It was so much fun!

But guess what was even more fun?!
Sleeping in one of Richard's beautiful guest bedrooms!
In the photo below the bed and chandy are covered with black tooling
and a few mourning wreaths are on the bed.

More black tooling on the mantle.

And here is the view from my bedroom window.
The Mississippi River!

I got to use this wonderful bathroom

with this beautiful pink chandelier.

After a busy evening,
there were 83 people who came for the tours,
I was "dead" tired and ready to climb into bed.
THIS BED!

And oh was it a dreamy night!!

Thank you Kathy over at A RETURN TO LOVELINESS for featuring my Hauntingly Romantic post.
